Thing 15: Social Networking

"... almost 60 percent of students who use social networking sites such as Friendster, Facebook, and even Webkins and Nick.com, which are geared toward younger kids, say they talk about educational topics. And surprisingly, more than 50 percent specifically talk about schoolwork, says a recent study by the National School Boards Association." Debra Lau-Whelan, School Library Journal, 8/15/2007 .

We could have a library presence and see what happens!! It could link to our home page where the student can IM library staff for assistance or they can browse the catalog and even the databases if they are aware of them. If not, great teaching moment and even more use of our virtual resources.
